Innotech Windows + Doors, in collaboration with official partners Trocal®, Profine Group, and Cardinal Glass Industries, proudly sponsored Team Canada in the 2011 Solar Decathlon. Team Canada's innovative concept house, known as Technological Residence, Traditional Living (TRTL), tackles key challenges within Alberta's Aboriginal communities while simultaneously fulfilling the requirements of the 5th Solar Decathlon competition.

TRTL is a net-zero, solar-powered residence incorporating a variety of materials selected for their resistance to mold, fire, and the harsh environmental conditions prevalent in Southern Alberta, Canada. These materials, which include Innotech Tilt + Turn Windows and Terrace Swing Doors, were also chosen for their ability to significantly extend the building's lifespan.

"The trend in North America is undeniably moving toward sustainable construction and comprehensive housing solutions," notes Jens Busse, North American Sales Director at Profine. "The Solar Decathlon provides an excellent platform to demonstrate the effectiveness of our energy-efficient products in a highly demanding context."

The Solar Decathlon, a biennial event organized by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, challenges 20 international student teams to create, construct, and operate the most appealing, efficient, and cost-effective solar-powered house. Team Canada is led by a diverse group of students from the University of Calgary.

Team Canada achieved a 10th-place finish at the 2011 Solar Decathlon. The TRTL house proved to be the most popular, attracting nearly 24,000 visitors in just 11 days. Congratulations to Team Canada on their accomplishment!
