Lift + Slide vs Traditional Sliding Door

Besides performance, security, and design, the most immediate difference when using the lift + slide is how effortless the door moves even with extra large openings. You push and it glides continuously.

Operation

Lift + Slide

Simple handle turn lifts door off track for effortless sliding of extra-large panels.

Traditional

Slides on track with friction, requiring more force and causing wear.

Security

Lift + Slide

Multi-point locking with steel-reinforced uPVC and fusion welded corners.

Traditional

Basic latch mechanism with limited security points.

Sealing

Lift + Slide

Compression seals engage when door is lowered — airtight and weatherproof.

Traditional

Moderate seal — more prone to air and water infiltration.

Durability

Lift + Slide

Fusion welded corners and steel reinforcement ensure decades of smooth operation.

Traditional

Rollers and tracks wear down more quickly with mechanical joints degrading over time.

Design

Lift + Slide

Flush-mount sill creates continuous indoor-outdoor surface.

Traditional

Higher sill profiles create barriers and limit accessibility.

Our Two Models

Defender 76LS

The Defender 76LS is recommended for smaller openings (less than 15′ wide).

Defender 88LS

The Defender 88LS is recommended for larger openings (up to 21′ wide).

Configurations

Both models are available with two, three or four panels in a variety of interior and exterior finish options.

Net Zero Energy

Not All Certifications Are Equal

Why do certifications matter? Quality Engineering. Obtaining Passive House certification is hard and is an indicator of the engineering and research standards of the manufacturer. In Canada, the National Energy Code has 4 tiers aiming for homes to be at tier 4 (Net Zero Ready) by 2030. Passive House exceeds even Net Zero. Energy Star is Tier 1. Innotech's windows are Passive House. Know which certifications actually matter in giving you guidance on what's superior build quality.

Energy Certifications Ranked by Strictness
RankCertificationEnergy EfficiencyInnotech ProductsNotes
1
Cold Climate Passive House (PHI)
Elite
~90%+Innotech Defender 88PH+
Only 4 manufacturers worldwide, 2 in North America (Innotech is 1 of them). The absolute best for airtightness, thermal efficiency, and durability in cold climates.
2
Passive House (PHI)
Top Tier
~80-90%Innotech Defender 88PH+
The gold standard for energy performance; airtight, thermally efficient homes with rigorous testing and verification requirements
3
Net-Zero Energy Ready (NZER) / National Energy Code Tier 4
Top Tier
~75-80%Innotech Defender 76TS
Net-Zero Energy Ready is Canada's 2030 target; National Energy Code Tier 4 is the national code top tier not yet adopted in Ontario. Both represent the highest performance levels for future building standards.
4
National Energy Code Tier 3
High
~50%
Ontario's 2025 requirement for new homes; represents a significant step up from current building codes
5
National Energy Code Tier 2
Moderate
~25%
Offers moderate energy performance improvements; not currently adopted in Ontario
6
LEED / Built Green / Energy Star Certificates
Standard
~5-20%
Whenever you see LEED/Built Green Certificate, it is their most basic certificate at around 20% efficiency gains. They have higher tiers in Gold/Platinum, so make sure to ask what tier. Energy Star is common to see in Ontario but it's the most basic efficiency standard.
7
National Energy Code Tier 1 / Ontario 2025 Standard
Baseline
5-15%
Ontario's current standard as of 2025; aligns with the minimum National Energy Code requirements
